Veronica Soebarto
The University of Adelaide
Veronica Soebarto is a Professor at the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, The University of Adelaide and Fellow of the Architectural Science Association. She is the theme lead in Sustainable Urban and Regional Landscapes of the University’s Environment Institute and in Sustainable Futures of the University’s Adelaide-Nottingham Alliance. An author/co-author of more than 150 publications, her research interests span from age-friendly built environment, greenspace and wellbeing, environmental performance assessments of buildings, building performance simulation, human thermal comfort, to the social dimension of sustainable design. She currently leads an ARC Discovery Project to develop resilient housing for low-socio economic older people in South Australia.
Ali Cheshmehzangi
The University of Queensland
Professor Ali Cheshmehzangi is Head of the School of Architecture, Design and Planning (ADP) at the University of Queensland. He has been the World’s top 2% field leader for three consecutive years, recognised by Stanford University. He is among the top 30 global scholars in the urban sustainability research area, also Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Urban Sustainability book series. Ali is internationally known for his scholarly contribution and extended work on climate resilience and sustainable urbanism research. With a career spanning over two decades, he has made significant contributions to the academic and professional communities, with a focus on sustainable and environmentally conscious design. Prior to joining UQ, Ali held several strategic leadership roles. So far, Ali has published over 500 journal papers, articles, conference papers, book chapters, and reports. He also has 33 academic books, three of which have received awards at various levels. He also has received international awards and recognition for his research on urban resilience studies and sustainability research, as well as a Vice-Chancellor’s award for his impactful contribution to higher education.
Ali Bounds and Neil Logan
BVN
Ali Bounds is co-CEO at BVN, a creative collective of architects, designers, researchers, and makers dedicated to shaping a better future. As co-CEO, Ali seizes opportunities and challenges norms, paving the way for a new generation of leadership. In 15 years of practice, with six as Principal, she has refined an ideological dedication and pragmatism that creates valuable architectural assets across adaptive reuse, healthcare, education and civic buildings. A focus on fostering connections and placemaking has seen Ali’s projects embraced by communities while her innovative thinking on major projects has been recognised with national and international awards.
Neil Logan serves as co-CEO at BVN, where he is dedicated to making sustainable practices second nature across all sectors of the firm. As co-CEO, he is in a strong position to do so. Another passion of Neil’s is uncovering areas of innovation in the design process. He works collaboratively with clients, communities and stakeholders to tease out unique solutions to age-old challenges. His tenacity in design management and experience in the delivery of large and technically complex projects is renowned; and his ability to lead, elicit and combine the contributions of a multi-disciplinary design team enviable.
Gareth Richardson
Economic Development Queensland (EDQ)
Gareth Richardson, Development Manager at Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), brings over two decades of urban development and planning expertise to his role. A QUT graduate, Gareth is part of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct Team with his specific focus on curating private sector investment and driving property solutions for the emerging health and knowledge economy within the Precinct. He’s also leading the transformation of the Yeronga TAFE site into an exemplar urban infill project. With a background at Stockland and various roles in the Department of State Development and Planning, Gareth specializes in delivering housing solutions that meet evolving market needs. His passion for the Gold Coast and sustainable urban outcomes drives his commitment to creating transformative spaces for Queensland’s future.
